GP: Proposal for measures to improve pedestrians' safety at selected pedestrian crossings in Tábor - Czech PDF Print E-mail

The project should provide a basis for improving pedestrians' safety at pedestrian crossings in Tábor (crossing of streets Sobìslavská and Mìšická) and in the near surroundings (localities Horky I, Horky II, Zárybnièní lhota and Všechov). The proposal should include creating several variants relating to each place, including the individual variants cost calculation. The solution results from the request that it is necessary to provide higher safety standards as concerns both bus stop accessibility and pedestrian crossings on major and hence heavily loaded roads. The adjustments represent a pronounced respect towards pedestrians' needs. Reconstructing, re-marking or removal to other places of the crossings are suggested. The project involves measures to make pedestrians more visible, and to improve the crossings accessibility, which will result in improving the safety of all users.

One of the most important proposals was to reduce the traffic areas. Rearrangement of the traffic areas will enable the creation of traffic refuges and the separation of sidewalks from the roads. In the case of some localities the projects suggest that bus stops should be moved to another place in such a way that visibility arrangement of access ways is better and that the access is safer and more comfortable for both pedestrians and passengers. It was also necessary to improve access between the sidewalk and pedestrian crossing. In the case of some localities the design includes the creation of a central refuge at the crossing and recommends using road marking in order to narrow the traffic lanes.

Expected benefits:

The project provides the customer with a basis for the realization of building and organizational measures to improve overall road traffic safety, especially pedestrian safety. The fact that the measures suggested can be realized in several stages may lead to a quicker elimination of the most troublsome places.
