GP: Access and parking management for the city centre, Debrecen - Hungary PDF Print E-mail

This measure is one of the most promising tools to protect the inner city from high traffic. This will greatly contribute to the final goal to make the city more liveable.

Objectives/ Innovative Aspects


The main goal is to define and implement a new access and parking strategy in order to modify the parking habits of the car users in the city centre.

The measures

* build and establish new P+R parking facilities for drivers that have their destination in Debrecen
* investigate the possibilities of preventing incoming traffic to the inner centre from these access routes in case of heavy traffic
* install on-line system for monitoring traffic volume and air quality in the traffic control centre
* decrease the transit traffic at the city centre by 30% using access limitation and P+R promotion
* 50 locations can be equipped with countdowners

Implementation status

* new parking facilities and free spaces are shown by a table
* public procurement procedure concerning the study of access and parking management in the city centre has been finished and the contract has been signed

Expected results

* increase the number of the cars which use the parking area in the suburbs
