|GP: Development of a car pooling, Potenza - Italy|
In order to reduce private cars circulation, a new service of car pooling will be implemented in Potenza. Since a structured car pooling service has not been implemented yet in Potenza, it will be organized through an operative centre (Mobility Centre) coordinating all the Mobility Managers of the companies involved in the Project.
Objectives/ Innovative aspects
Even if collective use of car is a reality in many companies and organisations, it comes from spontaneous and disorganised initiatives, with modest results in terms of journeys reductions; the realisation of an operative centre equipped with specific software able to manage databases and create “ideal crews” can be a strong incentive for the diffusion of an intelligent use of car.
The methodological work leading to the realization of the car pooling service involves the creation and updating of a database containing information about employees home to work trips and mobility demand (personal data, trip origin and destination, journey date and time, constraints and preferences) for all the companies involved in Smile. When consulted, the database, using an opportune software, will provide the “ideal crew”, whose members satisfy conditions of spatial and temporal proximity (similar O-D and time period) and constraints imposed by users. Formalities for answer and contacts with other members of the crew, will vary, depending on the scope of service provision and the communication channel used. The service will available: via internet, on the web site implemented within the project framework; in person or via telephone at the Mobility Centre.
Methodological work and service design M 1-19,
The main results of car pooling are evident: increasing the number of persons per vehicle, the number of circulating and parked vehicles will decrease, together with the pollutant emissions in the atmosphere.
