|GP: Introduction of low impact, access for all waterbuses in Venice - Italy|
This measure introduces waterbuses with a lower environmental impact, which are accessible to disabled users on a direct waterbus route previously inaccessible to users with disabilities.
Objectives / Innovative Aspects
Differentiate public waterborne transport in terms of environmental impact and access for all users through the introduction of greater capacity, lower environmental impact boats suitable for the transportation of disabled passengers in a boat route which has no direct transport services for passengers with disabilities.
ACTV’s investment plan foresees the construction of 3 waterbuses to take up service on the Piazzale Roma-Murano route. Due to regional funding, it is now possible to foresee the construction of 20 waterbuses of this kind. CIVITAS allows the construction of these waterbuses in a way that will reduce the impact on the physical environment (hulls adapted in order to reduce superficial wave action), will have more efficient motors (105 KW) and will consider the needs of disabled passengers.
At the end of 2004, the project for the construction of 20 waterbuses with the technical characteristics for the navigation on the around the city lines (which include the island of Murano) and for access to disabled passengers was approved.
Reduce the travel time for people with disabilities from Murano Island to the Mainland by one half.
The above project is part of the CIVITAS - MOBILIS initiative
