In most European cities, individual transport has increased in the past and is still on the rise, causing major problems, including traffic congestion, high demand for parking areas and negative environmental impact such as air pollution. One important way to address rising mobility pressures on European cities is to create effective policies to deal with stationary traffic and to manage parking in an innovative way. This includes measures such as demand-driven management of public and private parking facilities, the introduction of parking licenses, or advanced city-toll systems.

The operation «CityParking in Europe» focuses on the development of more effective policies and strategies to address rising mobility pressures in urban areas and associated stationary traffic problems. More specifically the project seeks to identify and transfer good practice and innovative solutions and develop generalised concepts and guidelines for cities that take account of major characteristics of the urban area such as size, network layout, economic development and environmental aspects.
The operation enhances the capacity of the partner cities to manage stationary traffic. It facilitates the development and implementation of innovative parking concepts that make traffic flow more efficient and reduce traffic-related environmental impacts.

Activities include the identification of good practice and the formulation of policy recommendations and guidelines. Based on workshops, conferences and study tours, partners examine in detail a range of tools and policies, including methods of surveying and modelling traffic flows, parking space management as an instrument to support local development objectives, userfriendly parking facilities and innovative technologies for parking space management.
