The present situation shows a very high use of private cars that try to arrive in the central areas of the city, one of the problems is the inadequate information given to the drivers that want to reach the city.
The feeling that public transport is not comfortable and often late doesn’t help in promoting the park & ride scheme. The scheme proposed should help changes in the habits of drivers, improving inter-modality and introducing a “barrier” with high tariffs around the centre of the City.

The measure

The development of a parking pricing strategy through:
- mapping the relationship between parking supply and demand in the mainland Venice urban area.
- surveys of flows searching for parking in the most attractive areas and defining of turnover time average per area.
- analysis and identification of suitable differentiated tariffs which encourage use of remote parking facilities and discourage central on-street parking.
- planning of user information and marketing campaigns which gives users accurate information on parking availability, location and price.

In addition, the work involves the installation of signs/ information for users and the implementation of a marketing and information campaign which gives users accurate information on parking availability, location and price.

Implementation status

Action managed by the City of Venice and recently by ASM Spa:
· Growing parking areas around the centre: their use is still low and growing very slowly
· new interchange car-parks free of charge to promote the use of park & ride scheme
· new tariff system to optimize the use of parking availability and to improve attractiveness of some parking areas
· “blue lanes” used by citizens that live in particular areas that do not have private parking space
· 4.800 parking lots, 2.900 of them have a tariff of 0,50 €/hr; 1.100 of 1,00 €/hr and 800 of 1,50 €/hr.
· campaign to inform of the possibility of park & ride and the position of the interchange parkings
· signalling and real time information for park users transferred to A.S.M. S.p.A.

(Expected) results

Increase the number of cars using the interchange car-parks and decrease the number of cars searching for parking in the central area of the city by the end of 2006.
