Integrated ticketing and tariffs are only available within the city area. There is no integrated ticketing between railway and other transport modes available. Within the measure Krakow will perform a test of an integrated ticketing and tariff solution between the local public transport and the national railway on the corridor Krzeszowice - Krakow.

Objectives / Innovative Aspects

The measure concerns the increase in public transport by 10% on Krzeszowice-Krakow corridor, the improving of the quality of passenger flow, the testing of a solution of an integrated ticketing and tariff between local public transport and the national railway and the decrease in the number of private cars entering into the city. Innovative are the integrated rail - bus ticket and the study and pilot application to test the integrated ticketing and tariff system.

The measures

Form a test of an integrated ticketing and tariff solution between the local public transport and the national railway. Due to limited budget possibilities the measure will be focused on one corridor (currently decided - the corridor Krzeszowice-Krakow). With the integrated ticketing and tariff solution an increase of public transport use by 10% on the corridor Krzeszowice-Krakow is expected. There will be research and technological development activities conducted concerning the designing of the integrated ticketing and tariff system, including the selection of lines in the corridor Krzeszowice-Krakow, assumptions for integrated tariff system, agreements with the National Rail Company, development of technical specifications of the integrated ticketing and tariff system. Initial implementation of the tariff and ticketing system integrating the railway line between Krzeszowice and Krakow with one line of city public transport will be demonstrated.

Implementation status

In order to integrate ticketing between railway and other transport modes there are negotiations running between the City of Krakow, the local public transport operator and the national railway.

(Expected) results

It is expected that the number of passengers of the railway line Krzeszowice - Krakow will increase by 10%. Also 10% growth of new passengers in MPK buses are predicted. The traffic flow on road Krzeszowice-Krakow will decrease by 5%. The training activities will be conducted in form of training sessions for integrated ticket distributors/retailers, for users of integrated tickets and for control inspectors.
