For EIE, increasing the % of travel done by walking and cycling is a clear way to reduce CO2. Working in 6 urban areas (Budapest, Dublin, Granada, Graz, London and Siracusa) and focussing on behavioural change through the use of ’soft measures’ (education, training and publicity), ASTUTE will overcome the organisational barriers that prevent an increase in the use of walking and cycling in European cities. This will be achieved across a variety of policy and decision-making systems, through the provision and use of practical solutions in both the public and private sectors. Measures will be piloted in the private sector through Workplace Travel Plans.
STEER projects promote the more sustainable energy use in transport (i.e. increased energy efficiency, new and renewable fuel sources, and the take-up of alternatively propelled vehicles). The specific focus is on alternative vehicle propulsion, policy measures for the more efficient use of energy in transport, and strenghthening the knowledge of local management agencies in the transport field.
