Increases in the level of freight traffic can have an important influence on the economic prosperity of a region. However, this traffic also brings problems such as traffic jams, pollution and increased land use. Due to insufficient contact between public authorities and stakeholders in the logistics industry – such as businesses and universities – there is often a lack of understanding regarding the structure and organisation of freight transport. This can lead to the implementation of inefficient transport policies. By increasing cooperation between key players, public authorities would be better able to initiate and process projects on a regional and interregional level in order to improve logistics services and infrastructure.
ENLoCC focuses primarily on improving interregional cooperation on transport logistics on a European level by establishing cooperation between Logistics Competence Centres throughout Europe in an open network. The operation aims to assess good and bad practices in order to implement problem-solving procedures.
ENLoCC is developing new approaches in the field of European logistics education and is establishing a European logistics information platform. By producing reports on best practice, ENLoCC is able to advise existing Logistical Competence Centres whilst helping to found new ones. The operation has also established innovative pilot projects for interregional transport logistics in and between regions. ENLoCC brings together regions, in particular the regional and local authorities with commercial key players responsible for logistics and goods transportation. The result of this is the creation of a new economic and political dimension in the area of European logistics. This cooperation helps to produce new traffic solutions, for example, reductions in emission levels and traffic congestion.
