|GP: New leisure related mobility services in Krakow - Poland|
The aim of the measure is to install innovative bike carrying facilities on twelve buses. It is expected to achieve a 20% increase of public transport use on these bus lines in the months from April to October. The main purpose of this measure is to stimulate the users of bicycles and raise the use of public transport for trips to recreation areas.
Objectives / Innovative Aspects
The measure concerns activities taken up to stimulate the use of bicycles as regular means of transport and to raise the use of public transport for trips to recreation areas by installing innovative bike carry facilities on twelve buses, the marketing of the service and the testing of the system for future implementation from suburbs areas into the city centre. Innovative are the bike carrying facilities on buses to improve the comfort of travelling by bus with the own bike.
Raise the use of PT (public transport) for trips to recreation areas by installing innovative bike carry facilities on twelve buses, marketing the service, testing the system for future implementation from suburbs areas into the city centre, creating a new model of going outside the city centre by bus and improving the comfort of using PT buses with the own bike. Research and technological development activities are conducted concerning testing bike carry facilities on the regular bus line 134 to the zoo in the scope of operating and functionality, evaluating bike users’ sensitivity (gaining their opinions and recognising their feelings about testing bike carry facilities), preparing maps and computer simulations of bus routes which can be used for buses with bike carry facilitates for future implementation, purchasing of 32 small buses which are equipped with special holder making assembling bike on buses’ carry facilities easier. There are some demonstration activities that come with the measure including planning of bike parking facilities at the PT stations and secure bicycle paths to the recreation areas.
Among the expected results and targets is expected that the traffic on the corridor to the recreation area on weekends from April to October will increase by 15% due to new bike-bus users. There are additionally some training activities for bus drivers in Krakow on the technological and operational details of the new bike carrying facilities installed on buses, e.g. on which stops to collect the bikes, how to install them on bike carrying facilities, how to behave, perform and drive with such facilities on board, etc.
The above project is part of the CIVITAS-CARAVEL initiative.
