Eco-Driving and E-mobility in klimaaktiv Mobil Driving Schools
In the context of the Austrian Government's klimaaktiv mobil programme, various projects that aim to reduce CO2 emissions from transport are supported. A certificate for klimaaktiv mobil driving school was created in cooperation with Austria‘s Federal Branch Association of Driving Schools to distinguish driving schools that are especially committed to climate protection. Since 2017, the fleet of every driving school must include at least one vehicle with an alternative power source. So far, 30 driving schools in eight different Federal Provinces have successfully met the requirements of a klimaaktiv mobil driving school and have been certified accordingly.
In addition, as part of the pilot project implemented by the Austrian Energy Agency in cooperation with the Federal Branch Association of Driving Schools, a new training course was tested with learner drivers, during which the learners took most of their lessons in electric vehicles. Learner drivers did not switch to manually shifted cars until the end of the practical training. This was as an opportunity to test an electric vehicle in driving instruction. Experience has shown that the tested training method has the potential to considerably stimulate the use of electric vehicles in driving schools.
